| CONCERTOS |
| Alison has performed Concerti across the UK, in Hong Kong (with the Hong Kong City Orchestra) and in South Africa (with the KZN Philharmonic and Johannesburg Philharmonic orchestras). The mandolin is surprisingly loud in Concerto format, its strident sound cutting through an orchestra with clarity. For Paisiello and Vivaldi there is usually no need for amplification in halls up to 600 seats. For the Hummel Concerto, other concerti and for bigger halls Alison has her own very discreet microphone and amplifier system which she can bring with her. The amplifier is a very compact but high quality unit that can sit under her chair or on the front of the stage. Popular programming with her as soloist includes teaming up two concerti in the same programme. (e.g. Vivaldi in C in 1st half, Hummel in 2nd OR Vivaldi in C in 1st half, Vivaldi in D in 2nd OR Vivaldi in C in 1st half and Paisiello in 2nd etc...). Alison is also often asked to do one or two concerti in a programme and also do a little "solo spot" where she addresses the audiences, tells them a little about the mandolin and plays a couple of short solos. This goes down very well and gives a nice textural contrast within an orchestral programme. |
