Caterina Lichtenberg is one of the leading mandolinists in Germany and has the wonderful mandolin and guitar duo: Duetto Giocondo Julian Dawes has written several works for Mandolin including a Concerto Ray & Louis GalloPlectrum guitar and Italian music, historical and modern. Marilynn Mair is a leading light on the mandolin in America and is involved in research projects and writes columns for magazines including Mandolin Quarterly. Hom Bru are a fabulously quirky and musical Traditional Scottish band from Shetland who feature two extremely fine mandolin players. Fabio Machado is an up and coming young mandolin player from Madeira, currently studying in Italy. Robert Schulz is Australian and has written much music for mandolin, especially for mandolin orchestras. Michael Reichenbach is a German mandolin player. He plays in the more traditional and bluegrass genres and is a gifted writer. Astute Music now publish two mandolin compilations of his: I Love Cappucino - a collection of 4 Blues solos for Intermediate players and Five Folk Dances - a collection of folk tunes from around the world arranged for solo mandolin of Intermediate standard.

PRODUCTS Astute Music are a progrssive new publishing company who have been developing their mandolin catalogue for the past few years. The catalogue is growing fast but already boasts a large selection of mandolin solo music from beginner level through to advanced; as well as music for 2 mandolins, 3 mandolins, mandolin and guitar, mandolin and piano; and mandolin and harp. Much of the catalogue either already is, or will be, available in download format as well as the traditional printed books. Saiten Katalog are the best string suppliers I have ever dealt with. They stock almost every type of string for mandolin and mandolin related instruments you can imagine. They stock many of them in singles so it is easy and cheap to use split sets. They are extremely efficient and have a very effective online ordering form. Joachim Trekel are the most helpful and efficient music company ever and stock as much mandolin music as you can imagine from all over the world. They also supply strings and accessories. They have just revamped their website and I believe the ordering form is more effective now. Strings Direct have a reasonable selection of strings for all fretted instruments and are efficient Kingham Cases are made to measure instrument cases for more or less any instrument. I have two. Plucked Strings is an American music publishing company Cool Mandolin is an American company selling all kinds of mandolin stuff including T-shirts! Edition 49 is a German publishing company who do many of their own mandolin publications (mainly edited by Detlef Tewes) and you can also buy other editions via their site.

ORGANISATIONS Trinity College of Music is in beautiful Greenwich on the southern banks of the Thames in London. Courses on offer with mandolin as first study include BMus, MMus, postgrad (part-time and full-time), Flexible Programmes of Study, Erasmus Exchange between European Conservatoires/Universities and others. See the dedicated Trinity page on this website for details of studying mandolin there. Chandos have a brand new modern style website which will have download facilities and ordering. Chandos are the label behind my Hummel Concerto in G CD and also Music from the Novels of Louis de Bernieres with Craig Ogden. Saydisc records are the umbrella company who issued my very first CD: Music for Mandolin in 1999. The CD has been reissued and is now available directly from this site. The BMG are an excellent organisation and can help with many queries related to Mandolin, Banjo or Guitar. They run an annual Rally and summer schools. Their website also carries a list of teachers in the UK. The Sydney Mandolins are a very active mandolin group in Australia The Classical Mandolin Society of America has annual conventions and are a good source of help and information. Victoria College are the only exam board who offer a full mandolin syllabus from the 1st Step Grade right through to Diploma level. The Lanarkshire Guitar and Mandolin Assocation are a fab outfit based in East Kilbride, Scotland. They do all sorts of things including running many classes for mandolin players young and old and also two orchestras.: Da Capo Alba - their main prize-winning senior orchestra, MANGO - their Junior Orchestra (also prize-winning!) Het Consort are a very good mandolin orchestra in the Netherlands who play entirely on Embergher and Embergher family instruments.
